Target targets trendy religion

Found this one on BoingBoing...
I heard that Kabbalah was becoming the new trendy religion with celebrities, so seeing this at Target shouldn't surprise me. Here's a bit of the description of this piece of string:
What makes this particular piece of string so special is, in part, the fact that it has traveled to Israel, to the ancient tomb of Rachel the Matriarch, and returned, imbued with the essence of protection... The string draws upon the connection to and awareness of Rachel and must be tied on by a loved one and sealed with Rachel's protective energy by reciting the Ben Porat prayer (included on a card).

GMail wishlist

Here's a wishlist of features for GMail. I'd really like to be able to run filters on existing mail.

I hate this thing

This is my phone. It rings too much. I very rarely like what the person on the other end has to say.

Touchpad PDA (with free rant thrown in!)

I've kinda got the PDA itch again... The new iPaq hx4700 has this new touchpad navigation that looks really cool. But it is $600+! The Dell Axim X30 is also very tempting at half the price... *sigh*
I just want a useable device that does it all; is that too much to ask for? One of the other new iPaqs, the h6315 seems close, but the lower performance bugs me. Maybe if there was a compact flash EDGE card to shove in the hx4700. EDGE service is pretty pricey right now anyway...

I currently have an iPaq 3870. I have alot of problems with the bluetooth... I have never gotten Activesync to work over bluetooth; what I wanted out of that was to sync automatically when I'm at my desk without having to take it off my belt. Connecting to either my Nokia 3650 or SonyEricsson T68 was a pain; the bluetooth connection with either one keeps dropping. Not to mention that GPRS is dog slow anyway. I got the T68 first and kinda thought I ought to eliminate the link between the phone and the PDA... After dealing with the T68 and a T300, I decided to give up on SonyEricsson. I've heard good things about the P900 though. Anyway I figured the 3650 with it's Symbian OS would be enough for the limited web browsing I wanted... I was wrong. I tried every browser on the market and they either didn't work well enough with the websites I wanted to use, or the phone didn't have enough memory to run the browser and load a web page (i.e. Opera). Anyone know of an aftermarket hack to add memory to a Nokia 3650? I think I'll wait for a few more improvements in Pocket IE and get something new next year. Maybe there'll be something like the P900 with more horsepower and 3G support...

Undocumented IOS

Just ran across this list of undocumented Cisco IOS commands and thought I'd pass it along. Kinda old though...

Goodbye old friend

Found out recently that an old friend of mine died. Don't know the cause of death for sure, but it sounds like a heart attack. He was only 31. I hadn't talked to him in awhile. It seems the older I get, I seem to have less and less time for seeing friends. My words of wisdom for the day: Visit or call that old friend today; you may not have a chance to tomorrow.

Favorites vs. Bookmarks

Like nearly every Wind0ze user on the planet I use Internet Explorer for at least some of my surfing because not everything works right in FireFox.  Iw ant to be able to either use FireFox's bookmarks in IE or IE's favorites in FireFox.  I Googled the hell out of this topic and either got instructions on how to import IE favorites into FireFox, people saying "me too" to the same problem, or pointers to online services to store your favorites.  I did run across two interesting services: Pluck (IE only) and Spurl (every browser, every OS)

Anyway, I'll try the online services, but I'll give a rum raisin cookie or Gmail invite to whoever can tell me where to get a widget to solve my problem.

Bottle Cap Tripod

I ran across these rather simple plans for a tripod. Simple, but I like it. Maybe I'll use this to mount my camera for use as a webcam. It'll probably be mounted to a bottle of Dew... no wait, I'll drink the Dew then it'll tip over... maybe diet Dew; that tastes like piss...

Retro phone

I like alot of retro styled stuff... I think using new tech with old style stuff is cool when it's useful. But I just don't get these handsets from POKIA. Cords BAD! This bluetooth version has a high degree of coolness though.

P2P for the people

There's a good article on Wired News by Kim Zetter. It talks about OutragedModerates.org and their use of P2P networks to distribute government documents that are normally hard to dig up. What they're doing is important, but I don't get why doing it via P2P is a big deal... everyone using P2P is just looking for porn anyway... BTW, also check out The Smoking Gun, Chilling Effects, The Memory Hole, and the Electronic Freedom Foundation for more news about what big brother is up to.

Cool bookmarklet

Jeff Mesnil has whipped up a couple bits of javascript that are pretty cool. They use frames to allow you to split a browser window horizontally or vertically.

Phone or camera

This Samsung camera phone has similar specs to my camera. I wonder how it does as a phone.

Jump!

Why the hell don't they make them take this thing down?

Hey! My iPod is just too small!

I can see the artistic value in retro stuff sometimes, but turning an iPod into a big clunky brick just seems stupid to me.

Doesn't everyone need a gold plated AK-47?
